On the morning of January 30th this year, Tricia Mahmias of Locust Valley NY was walking on the beach in Bayville NY, at the Connecticut end of Long Island with her husband and two dogs. She came across and snapped this extraordinary, ugly dead animal. It was her son Michael, an Environmental Scientist, who filled her in later about the Montauk Monster. She checked out the Newsday piece online: “And lo and behold it is the same thing – and in very good condition. There is no way this is a raccoon or any other kind of animal I have ever seen before.”

OMG i hope that this is just a myth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is what we call a “Nacktmull”, a “sand puppy” or “desert mole rat”.
It looks like a opossum without fur.
possum, plain and simple, probably not even the same animal as the original Montauk.
Looks like a really big rat!!1 eww

No rat look like that..
Thanks for a awesome post and interesting comments. I found this post while searching the web for science news. Thanks for sharing this story.
It is a dead possum. It has been in the water too long causing decomposition, hair loss and bloating. Salt water has probably helped preserve it somewhat.
hello,
The mantauk monster is sadly not a natural animal. Judging by my observation, the enigmatic creature is ingeniously fabricated by some sort of secret science organization responsible for genetic, mutation, cloning, forging human and animal fetus either by artificial insemination or general scenario of test-tube baby operations.
Here’s my suggestion, the illuminatti scientific department have succeeded in cajoling the masses as to think the mantauk monster possesses a natural trend- an entity created by God, while in real sense, it’s a successful multi cross breed of two or more animals put together. For instance, notice it’s body structure, having the countenance and chubbiness of a pig, jaw of flesh eating canine, feet of probably a giant rodent- not to speak of having pig-like pair of ears with funny looking tail to go with it. In addition, we can see part of worn off fur.
It’s within this hypothesis, I say, the chubacabra in their most scary (goblin-like) forms share similar scientific history as the mantauk monster along with other bizarre creatures which happen to pop up from nowhere.
But I’ll rather not cross the line by putting sa-squatch (bigfoot), together with cousins and nephews like yeti, missouri monster/ momo, and mermaid under such scientific origin.
Wait a minute, what if crossing the line makes more sense than self restriction? What if sa-sqautch and mermaids also have scientific explanation just like our dearest mantauk? What if they too are successful cross breeds? That makes all the reason why they are abnormally rare even though they are not being hunted. And why isn’t a single mantauk seen alive? “hmm, that’s a food for thought.”
All I can say about the creature up in the picture is that, it’s dead and rare which might, in all cases, dance towards a scientific (illuminati) explanation.
looks like some kind of naked mole rat… o_o
cmon people its a plain ole ground hog the hands the feet the hair the ears the eyes the tail the skull its just a ground hog
I belive in most of the Montauk Monsters, but I believe this one is some species of rat that is decaying.
strange.. looks like the head of a hippo, but completely different jaws and back legs are too long to be a hippo, plus a hippo would never be living in salt water. I don’t think its a raccoon or opossum because of how large its 2 meat teeth are, and it looks much too large to be either of them. some of the photos look fake, but some kind of real.
looks like its an armadillio or closely related
So this is either another rat or a Jack Russell Terrier.
